And if you are running a blog on your nonprofit website, this is one of the most effective ways you can be telling your story. A blog is a great way to connect with your constituents through personal stories that inspire them.

While you don’t need a blog on your nonprofit website, there are many benefits that can drive traffic to your website and donations to your nonprofit.

  1. Incorporating a blog into your website is the benefit it can offer to your search engine optimization (SEO) efforts. The variety of topics you can cover in a blog can help you drive a lot of search traffic you may otherwise not get.
  2. Blogs allow you to connect with people who are interested in your organization.
  3. Allows you to show your nonprofit's impact and personal side.
  4. Blogs show your volunteers and donors that your nonprofit is active and effective.

Tips for an efficient nonprofit blog

If you currently don’t have a blog or you’re ready to step up your blogging game, here are a few tips for efficient website blogging.

  • Stay consistent – This is the most obvious tip, but many people create a blog and then fail to stay consistent with content. Create a blog content calendar to stay on top of things and have a specific person on your team handle the scheduling.
  • Ask for input – Open the door for conversation on your blogs by asking for input or suggestions at the end of your post. Encourage your readers to “comment below” with their thoughts, so they feel engaged and that they have a voice.
  • Tell stories – From your recipients to your donors—tell stories about all the individuals who are involved and affected. Share how your nonprofit has positively affected a recipient, or share a unique story of how a donor raised support for your cause.
  • Thank your volunteers – Don’t forget to recognize your volunteers for their support. Write a post after an event has taken place that includes photos of volunteers working hard and acknowledges their work and the event’s success.
  • Promote your blog – Your blog posts should be shared on your social media channels and in e-newsletters. Don’t forget to include the social share buttons on the bottom of your blog posts, as well, so readers can pass along the post when they feel inspired.
